The honest grade — what 合格品 means, and why we tell you

The journal · 5 minute read

Every piece in this catalog is fired from the same body, painted with the same decors and glazed in the same kilns as the flagship Red Leaf (红叶) brand. The difference is a stricter gate: Red Leaf ships only A-grade. What the inspectors set aside — a dark speck the size of a pin, a glaze pinhole, a rim a half-millimetre out of round — is finished under the 家好 JIA HAO mark instead.

None of these marks affect use. The porcelain is the same high-fired white body, 1,350 °C, lead- and cadmium-free; it rings the same note when you tap it. What changes is only the price, which is roughly what honest cosmetic grading should change.

We would rather name the grade than hide it. Each piece is backstamped 家好 · 中国景德镇瓷厂制, and the box tells you what is inside. Our painters use these sets at home — which remains the best quality certificate a factory can offer.

Under every foot: 家好 · 中国景德镇瓷厂制 — the mark of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Group, and the grade we name rather than hide.
